Well, here we are in the final video in this series where we are talking about song number seven off of the “Dark Ages” by Warpriest. This is … the “Realm of the Necromancer”. Cue music.
Realm of the Necromancer was first recorded in August of 2014. The original title was “Die Hexen”. It was German for “The Witch”, or I guess it would be, “DIE HEXEN!” I guess I like the title of “The Witch”. Shortly after, in September, I came up with the title the Realm of the Necromancer. The title is a nod to one of my favorite Rush songs, “The Necromancer”. It is my longest song at nine minutes and forty-four seconds. If you can make it through that song, they should give you, like, you get the burger for free. It just narrowly beats out “Dark Ages”, which is nine minutes and 40 seconds. I always knew that I wanted it to be the last song on an album. I wanted to end it on that note. I believe this was the second song I brought to Elis to sing after “Shores of the Black River”. Once again, I just told her, “do whatever you want on it”. I just wanted to see how she would attack the song. I didn’t want to give her any preconceived ideas of melody or anything like that. I think she did an awesome job. It’s one of my favorite tracks off the whole album. I also love how Elis and I do the gang vocals at the end. If you listen hard, you can hear her voice in there as well as mine. And, it was a nod to the original “Warpriest” song, which had a similar chorus at the end of it. Lyrically, the song is how satan can be the lord of this world, and we can be under his spell. But we need to stand up and fight against him and his minions to be free. We also, as the song says, need to return and help set the captives free as well.
So this concludes the final video breakdown of the Songs of the Dark Ages album. I hope you’ve enjoyed these explanations and I’m thinking about doing one in November for the Warpriest album. As that will be the two year anniversary of that one. If you have been following this series, you know the drill. Not only will you win the CD, with free shipping, you will also win some swag. I have some stickers, and I’m including some new stuff in this as well. The newly made Warpriest pin. As well as the the new “DOOM” sticker. Come on, I mean, you’re getting all this stuff and all you have to do is comment. Once again, I thank you for watching these videos, and we are looking at doing a third album this year. We’re really pushing for it. I just need you, to clap for Tinkerbell to get us across the line, okay? So until then, talk to you later.
