Warpriest “Caravan of Lust” Song Breakdown

Here we are with song number six off of Warpriest’s “Dark Ages” titled “Caravan of Lust”. Caravan of Lust was another one of the songs that I needed to fill out seven songs on the album. I sat down, and this one came relatively quickly. I always wanted to do a song with, what’s called the Byzantine scale, or also known as the double harmonic scale, that gives it a Middle Eastern kind of feel. I thought it would be interesting to do something like that. The first song of mine to ever feature an acoustic guitar, a nylon classical guitar at that, and a solo, which was a first for me. I believe I sat down just to test recording the nylon guitar, and actually I did the solo either in the first or second take. So it was a pretty quick one for me and I actually liked it and just stuck with that solo.The song was recorded in March of 2021. At the time, the spa shootings in Atlanta had just happened, and I wanted to touch on the subject, the broader subject of sex trafficking.

A high percentage of women that work at these spas are human trafficked people. It’s a sad number. The statistics ,I think the most recent are in 2017, say that around almost 25 million people are human trafficked in our world. Out of that, almost 5 million of them are for sex trafficking. Out of that, around a million of them are children. Women make up a large percentage of sex trafficked victims. It was a very dark subject. I mean, a lot of doom songs are dark, and I just felt like it was something that needed to be covered.

I just want to say that if you know somebody involved, or you yourself are involved in sex trafficking, that you can reach out to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. You can also go to their website, which is https://humantraffickinghotline.org. In the song I also wanted to bring to light that a lot of us are responsible for helping these people get out of this. They’re our sisters, brothers and children that are involved in this. We need to put an end to such a horrible crime. In this day and age, it’s staggering that it is still going on, especially at almost 25 million people.
