Hey this is Robert with Warpriest talking about our the one year anniversary of our second album, Dark Ages, which is this August 13th.
I wanted to start off by talking about the artwork that was created for this album. Back in 2013, I had the idea for the initial artwork and also loosely a concept album talking about the ills of our society. I kept that for a couple of years in the back of my head. Around 2019 I came across Firebreather’s “Under a Blood Moon”. I liked the image of this foreboding dark shadowy figure. So I took inspiration from them and I created a piece that was similar. But I wasn’t really happy with the way this piece had a straight on symmetrical look to it, so I wanted to add a little bit more motion and action to it. I came up with a second piece that took inspiration from Chernabog in Disney’s “Fantasia”. After that piece, I wrestled with a few of them, trying to decide on what I finally wanted. Then I decided to go back to the king of all artwork, Frazetta. I took inspiration from his “Death Dealer II” piece. That was where we came up with the final piece, which I handed off to Elis, and she put her touches to it and created the Warpriest, and did an awesome job with it. As you can see, some close ups here we have of the Warpriest himself, the demons that he’s fighting, and some of the surrounding area here. I think she did an awesome job with it, and I was really happy with the way it came out and continued the legacy of having this Warpriest character on the album cover.
So, as this week rolls out, I’m going to be talking about the inspiration behind all the songs on there. Each day I will release a new one, and at the end I’m going to have a drawing for a winner of the album. You’re going to win the album, I’ll give you some stickers and things that I have in there.
